It's Not Normal
That's the strangest thing I've ever seen.
How many times have you said that to yourself?
Usually it's in reference to something someone says or does that surprises you.
If you think back to your formative years (and hopefully you're still forming and growing) in your teens you may have wondered about whether your own thoughts, words, and actions were "normal". Whether it was your thoughts about sex, school, dreams, or why nobody seemed to understand the real you, I know it was a frequent question for me.
Now, when a prospect or customer relationship tilts out of balance we recognize it's not "normal" or the way we'd expect them to react and we don't always know what to do next.
A thoughtful pause is always good to start with and then a question or leading statement...

How will that impact the challenges you face?
All of them lead to teasing out where the statements or decisions are coming from.
